According to Reuters, U.S. President Donald Trump said the possibility of reaching a deal to end the war between Russia and Ukraine has moved significantly closer. He made the remarks during the World Economic Forum taking place in Davos, Switzerland.
Trump said the sides are currently close enough to reaching an agreement. In his view, if the leaders of Russia and Ukraine do not enter negotiations, it would not be a reasonable decision. The president expressed confidence that the war could be ended through diplomatic means.
Donald Trump also said he would meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy later in the day. The meeting is expected to focus on stopping the war and achieving peace.
Trump made these statements during a question-and-answer session at the World Economic Forum. The forum is discussing global security, the economy and the resolution of major conflicts as key topics.
