US Attorney General Pamela Bondi said in a statement on the social network X that official charges have been filed against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. This was reported by kursiv.uz.reports.
According to the information, Maduro is accused of taking part in a “conspiracy to commit narco-terrorism,” organizing the smuggling of cocaine into the United States, and possessing weapons and explosive devices that could be used against the US. The case involving the couple will be heard by the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
In her post, Bondi stressed that Maduro and Flores “will soon answer before American justice in US courts on US soil.” She also thanked the US president for calling for the Venezuelan leader and his spouse to be held accountable and expressed gratitude to US service members who took part in the operation to detain them.
