Nicolás Maduro brought to New York in handcuffs

Photos and videos released by U.S. TV channels reportedly show the moment Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were brought to the United States. Reports say Maduro was flown out on a military aircraft from a U.S. aircraft carrier stationed in the Caribbean Sea. This was reported by kursiv.uz.reports.

The footage shows him being taken off the plane at a military base in New York State: Maduro had handcuffs on his wrists, chains on his ankles, and a hood over his head. It was noted that he was surrounded by U.S. law enforcement personnel.

According to the circulated videos, after landing Maduro and Flores were transferred to a helicopter and taken to Manhattan, and then to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) building. In a brief exchange with journalists, Maduro said, “Good night and Happy New Year.”

Videos also spread on social media, claimed to have been captured from a Fox News broadcast; one allegedly shows Maduro being escorted into the agency. Earlier reports said Maduro was detained during a special operation and initially taken to the U.S. aircraft carrier Iwo Jima in the Caribbean Sea.

According to media reports, the U.S. side is pursuing him on allegations related to drug smuggling. The trial could begin in the coming days, and until then Maduro is expected to be held at a federal detention center in Brooklyn.
