Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is expected to appear in the federal court of the Southern District of New York today, January 5th, at noon local time.
According to The New York Times, the Venezuelan leader's wife, Silia Flores de Maduro, is also scheduled to attend the Manhattan court at the same time. During the trial, it is planned that both of them will be officially charged. During the trial, Judge Alvin Hellerstein presided over the case.
According to court documents, Maduro is accused of organizing drug terrorism, conspiring to import cocaine, possessing weapons and explosives, as well as conspiring to store weapons and explosives against the United States.
This process is one of the most serious legal trials for the Venezuelan president in the international arena and could seriously affect his political and economic reputation.
