Russia strikes Kyiv: civilians killed

Overnight, Russia carried out an air attack on Kyiv and its surrounding areas, killing two people, Ukraine authorities reported. These are the first reported civilian deaths in the Ukrainian capital from Russian strikes in 2026.
According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, the strike set fire to a hospital in the Obolonskyi district in northern Kyiv. After the fire was extinguished, a body was found inside the hospital.
Additionally, a woman was injured and 25 people were evacuated. The Russian strike also hit towns and villages across the Kyiv region, damaging homes and critical infrastructure. Another civilian was killed in Fastiv district. Some areas were left without electricity.
Russia has repeatedly targeted Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities with missiles and drones over the past four years. Moscow calls its strikes military targets, but Ukrainian authorities say civilians and civilian infrastructure are often hit.
