Uzbekistan Launches 338 Cases Related to Mercenaries

Since the beginning of 2022, 338 criminal cases related to mercenary activities have been initiated in Uzbekistan. This was disclosed in the documentary film "Happiness Sought from Afar," prepared by the State Security Service.

The film highlighted that hundreds of Uzbeks join terrorist organizations or serve in foreign armies annually. In 2022, 19 criminal cases related to mercenary activities were opened, while this figure reached 139 this year.

It was noted that most mercenaries were sent to war zones either through deception or by criminal groups. Only a few engaged in these activities for the purpose of earning income.

Under Uzbekistan's legislation, mercenary activities are punishable by up to 10 years of imprisonment, while recruitment and training for such activities carry a sentence of up to 12 years.
