Mortal Kombat star Tagawa passed away
On December 5, 2025, Mortal Kombat film star Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa passed away at the age of 75 in Santa Barbara. According to Variety, complications following a recent stroke were cited as the cause of his death.

Throughout his career, Tagawa appeared in dozens of films and television series, often portraying charismatic antagonist roles. Among his television projects, he played one of the main roles in the Amazon-produced series "The Man in the High Castle."

Tagawa achieved widespread recognition through his portrayal of the villainous sorcerer Shang Tsung in the first adaptation of the Mortal Kombat film in 1995. He later reprised the role by providing the voice and likeness for the character in the 2019 video game.

The actor's manager, Margie Weiner, described him as a "rare human being, generous and dedicated to his craft." Although Tagawa often portrayed villainous characters, he considered these roles as an opportunity to break into the film industry.
