Gold Smuggling Worth 12.5 Billion Soum Uncovered at "Dostlik" Checkpoint

Gold smuggling worth 12.5 billion soums uncovered at ‘Do‘stlik’ border post

A resident of the Fergana region was detained at the “Do‘stlik” border customs post with a substantial amount of precious metal. According to information released by the State Customs Committee, rapid checks raised suspicions about the individual's actions, resulting in the exposure of a significant smuggling case.

During the inspection, vehicle spare parts were found in the individual’s bag. Upon closer examination, it was discovered that inside what initially appeared to be ordinary parts were gold ingots with a total weight of 7.7 kilograms. Experts estimate the total value of this precious metal to be approximately 12.5 billion soums.

The detained individual stated that the gold had been brought from Tashkent and was intended to be transported to Kyrgyzstan. It was also revealed that truck drivers were planned to be involved in the operation. In other words, the schemes were complex, but the calculations proved flawed.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding this incident. Currently, law enforcement agencies are conducting investigative procedures, and efforts are underway to identify the true owners of the gold ingots. The conclusion is clear: there is no “shortcut” at the border, and the law will ultimately prevail.
