Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon, and Kyrgyzstan's leader Sadyr Japarov have been awarded the Lev Tolstoy Prize. The leaders of these three Central Asian nations were recognized for signing an agreement concerning the demarcation of a shared border point.
“For Uzbekistan, strengthening regional cooperation is a priority in foreign policy, based on a strategy that acknowledges mutual responsibility for the future of Central Asia,” President Mirziyoyev stated during the award ceremony.
In turn, Russian President Vladimir Putin referred to resolving the border issue as a historic decision. According to him, the agreement will enhance regional security and provide opportunities to effectively combat terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, illegal migration, and smuggling.
The Lev Tolstoy Prize is a public award established to honor contributions to peace, humanitarianism, and global cooperation. It is presented to statesmen, public leaders, and organizations that make significant contributions to ensuring security and fostering international collaboration.
