Uzbekistan’s Tax Committee may raise the current tax cashback for consumers, nova24.uz reported. The proposal was announced by First Deputy Chairman of the committee, Mubin Mirzayev.
According to him, the cashback amount could be doubled—from the current 1% to 2%—if businesses operate legally.
The committee aims to strongly promote non-cash payments. Currently, one-third of tax payments are made through electronic systems. The goal is to raise this to 60–70%.
Mirzayev noted that increased digital transactions will reduce tax evasion and the need for extra checks from tax authorities.
Since October 1, 2024, Uzbekistan has been offering partial VAT refunds (20% to 40%) to restaurants, hotels, and tour operators, based on the share of non-cash payments.
If the program proves successful, cashback may be extended to other sectors, with the rate raised to 2%.
