An important diplomatic meeting was held in Tashkent: Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Kuwait, Ayub Yunusov, held extensive talks with Iraq’s Ambassador Al-Manhal al-Sofi. During the conversation, issues of further development of cultural and economic relations between the two countries were discussed.
It was noted that, ahead of the opening ceremony of the Islamic Civilization Center in Tashkent, the issue of Iraqi representatives participating in the international exhibition "Uzbekistan’s Cultural Heritage – Heritage of All Humanity" was given special attention. In addition, the possibilities of displaying a copy of the manuscript “Usul al-Bazdawi” by the famous Islamic scholar Fakhr al-Islam Bazdawi, which is kept in Baghdad’s “Awqaf al-Amma” library, at the exhibition in Tashkent were discussed.
During the meeting, a number of concrete initiatives were put forward to take trade and economic relations between the two countries to a new level. These included holding a Uzbekistan-Iraq investment forum, organizing an exhibition of Uzbek products, signing a memorandum of understanding between the chambers of commerce and industry of both countries, establishing a business council, and adopting a new memorandum of cooperation in the field of tourism.
Ambassador Al-Manhal al-Sofi stated that these issues would be thoroughly considered by the relevant Iraqi ministries and departments, and expressed his personal readiness to support these initiatives.
