Deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis have sent an inquiry to ministers to receive detailed information about the implementation process of Uzbekistan's strategy for transitioning to a green economy by 2030. During the parliamentary session, it was noted that reforms in the energy sector have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 6.3 million tons.
A part of this reduction (approximately 500,000 tons) was sold on the international carbon market, bringing in $7.5 million in grant funds to the country. Additionally, savings of 6.3 million kWh of electricity, 82,000 cubic meters of water, and over 1,050 tons of raw materials were achieved.
Modern filtration systems for air and gas purification have been installed in more than 140 large industrial and cement plants. In the spring and autumn of 2024, “green belts” were established around enterprise areas, with 11.8 million trees and shrubs planted.
Furthermore, 7,000 hectares of unused land from the state forest fund were developed to increase the country’s forestation level. At the same time, deputies emphasized that unresolved environmental issues remain, including air pollution, waste recycling, environmental monitoring, and the systematic implementation of energy-efficient technologies.
The public has raised these issues multiple times in meetings with deputies. Now, ministers are required to provide explanations on how they assess the pollution levels of enterprises, reduce harmful emissions, introduce “green certificate” ecological certification, regulate technological processes, and support small businesses in transitioning to ecological standards.
