Thailand and Cambodia halt border clashes, peace reached

Thailand and Cambodia ended border clashes with a second ceasefire. The truce took effect today and has held for two hours so far, with no reports of new gunfire or clashes.

The agreement was signed by the defense ministers of Thailand and Cambodia. At least 101 people were killed during 20 days of fighting, and over half a million people were displaced. The clashes involved drone strikes, rocket fire, and artillery bombardments.

The ceasefire is monitored by an ASEAN observer team, and direct communication has been established between the ministers and the heads of the armed forces. Both sides agreed not to use force against civilians.

The truce does not affect ongoing border demarcation work. Thailand has promised to return 18 Cambodian soldiers detained during the July clashes if the ceasefire holds for 72 hours. Both countries will continue to use existing mechanisms to ensure peace and security.
