Radical changes are being made to family legislation in the country: now cousins and nieces cannot marry.
According to the new bill, it is planned to put an end to marital relations between close relatives. According to it, it is forbidden to marry persons who have family ties not only through direct but also through lateral genealogy.
For whom is marriage prohibited?
Restrictions include 2nd, 3rd, and 4th-degree relatives. Including:
- Uncle, uncle, aunt, and aunts and their nephews;
- Marriages between cousins, cousins, aunts, and cousins are not permitted.
Important Exception: These restrictions do not apply between adopted or half-siblings if there is no actual blood relation between them.
At the same time, specific rules regarding the marriageable age are being established. District (city) khokims will have the authority to reduce the marriageable age by 1 year only in exceptional cases, such as pregnancy or childbirth.
Practical family relations with a person who has not reached marriageable age entail serious financial and legal consequences:
Fines: from 20.6 million to 41.2 million soums;
Public works: from 240 to 300 hours of forced labor;
Correctional labor: may be assigned for a term of up to 2 years.
