Russia attacks Ukraine with hundreds of drones and missiles

Russia carried out large-scale missile and drone attacks on Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv, during the night of December 27. According to Ukrainian officials, hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles were used in the attack. As a result, residential buildings and infrastructure facilities were damaged in Kyiv and surrounding areas.

As a result of the attack, one person was killed in the Kyiv region, while at least 19 civilians, including two children, were injured in the capital. Electricity and heating were cut off in several districts of the city, leaving thousands of homes without energy in cold weather. Rescue services continue searching for people who may be trapped under the rubble.

The attacks took place ahead of an expected important meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and U.S. President Donald Trump. The meeting is planned to discuss ending the war, territorial issues, and security guarantees for Ukraine. Zelenskiy described the attacks as pressure against peace initiatives.

The situation also affected regional security. Some airports in Polish regions bordering Ukraine were temporarily closed. Russia has not yet issued an official statement on the attacks, but both sides say contacts on peace talks are continuing.
