Oxford gives students access to the AI platform

Oxford University announced that it was the first UK institution to offer all its students and staff access to the educational version of the ChatGPT artificial intelligence tool. ChatGPT Edu, specially developed by OpenAI for education, will be widely used in Oxford after successful testing over the past year. This implementation is being carried out as part of the five-year partnership announced in March.

The university's Vice-Rector for Digital Technologies, Professor Anna Trefeten, called this "an exciting step in the digital transformation process" and emphasized that the platform will accelerate research and innovation based on curiosity and serve to bring solutions to global problems closer together. All students will use ChatGPT Edu as a convenient learning tool, enriching and personalizing their knowledge, and gaining new opportunities for learning and creativity.

ChatGPT Edu is designed for universities and increases privacy and security to ensure that data is stored by a separate institution. The university-wide launch will be based on a pilot scheme involving approximately 750 academics, students, and staff.

OpenAI's head of international education, Jaina Devani, stated that the Oxford scheme "is setting a new standard for how AI can enrich higher education." The university noted that along with the software, training sessions on the use of ChatGPT Edu and other generative AI tools will also be organized; they will emphasize "ethical use, critical thinking, and responsible application."
