Russia Lifting Restrictions on International Money Transfers

Russia lifts restrictions on foreign money transfers

The Central Bank of Russia has announced that, starting December 8, it will lift restrictions on money transfers abroad for Russian citizens and citizens of friendly countries. According to the regulator, this decision has been made due to the stable situation in the currency market.

As stated by the Central Bank, until June 7, 2026, these restrictions will remain in effect only for non-residents from unfriendly countries working in Russia. These individuals will only be allowed to transfer funds equivalent to their salaries abroad.

Non-residents from unfriendly countries who are not employed in Russia, as well as companies from these countries, will continue to face a complete ban. However, legal entities controlled by Russian citizens will be exempt from these rules.

The Central Bank clarified that restrictions do not apply to foreign investors transferring funds from their holdings in Russian financial markets or from 'In' type accounts. Additionally, it was confirmed that transfers in rubles could still be carried out through correspondent accounts opened in Russian banks, provided that both the sender's and recipient's accounts are maintained with foreign credit institutions.
