US State Department Temporarily Suspends Diversity Visa Issuance

The US State Department announced that it will temporarily stop processing visas that authorize entry to the country under the Diversity Visa (DV) program. At the same time, applicants will continue submitting documents, attending interviews, and receiving newly scheduled interview dates. This was reported by kursiv.uz.reports.

According to the agency, previously scheduled interviews will be held as planned on the set dates. However, for now, even those who successfully pass the interview will not be issued US entry visas. The State Department said it will keep applicants informed about further decisions regarding the program.

As a reminder, in mid-December, US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said she intended to suspend the DV-1 program designed for Green Card lottery winners. Through this pathway, nearly 50,000 people each year had the opportunity to move to and live in the United States.

Noem noted that Portuguese national Claudio Manuele Neveshe Valente, linked to Brown University and suspected in the killing of two students, entered the United States eight years ago through this very visa. It was also noted that an Uzbek citizen was among the victims.

CBS also recalled that US President Donald Trump has long criticized the visa lottery, viewing it as a threat to the country’s security. Supporters of the program, however, emphasize that DV has a positive impact on the economy and improves the US image.
