The military wing of HAMAS on December 29 officially confirmed the death of one of its leading figures in the Gaza Strip, Abu Obeyda. The group announced this in a statement on its Telegram channel. Earlier, Israel had reported that he was killed several months ago in an airstrike.
The statement named Abu Obeyda as an important figure in HAMAS and honored his memory. During the war, he served as the group’s main information officer and delivered important statements, including those on prisoner exchanges.
Abu Obeyda was born in 1985 and grew up in the Jabaliya area in northern Gaza. He joined HAMAS at a young age and later served in the movement’s military wing. He was known for always appearing in videos with his face covered.
According to Israeli officials, Abu Obeyda was killed in August 2024 during an airstrike on Gaza. Israel has aimed to eliminate HAMAS leadership since October 2023. Experts note that his death could affect the situation in Gaza.
