Trump reportedly was shocked by talks about an "attack" to Putin's residence

White House Press Secretary Carolyn Livitt reported on December 29 on the social network X that a "positive" telephone conversation took place between the presidents of the United States and Russia - Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin - on the issue of ending the war in Ukraine. He emphasized that possible steps towards peace were discussed during the dialogue.

This information was also confirmed by the aide to the President of the Russian Federation, Yuri Ushakov. According to him, Trump informed Putin about the results of his meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida on December 28. During the conversation, the US side reported on the negotiating environment with Ukraine and the received signals.

Ushakov said that Putin, in response, informed Trump about an alleged drone attack by Ukraine on a state residence in the Novgorod region. These claims were previously voiced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. According to Kremlin officials, this "attempt to attack" occurred after the Mar-a-Lago talks.

The Russian leader stated that this incident will not go unanswered, and that Moscow's position in the negotiations on Ukraine could be reconsidered against this backdrop. At the same time, the Russian side emphasized that it does not intend to completely withdraw from dialogue with the US.

Yuri Ushakov stated that Trump was deeply shocked by the news of the drone attack on Putin's residence and did not hide his anger. It is said that during the conversation, he also specifically noted that the White House did not provide Kyiv with Tomahawk missiles. However, these claims have not yet been officially confirmed by the White House.

Lavrov reported that on the evening of December 29, Ukraine attempted to attack a residence in the Novgorod region with 91 drones, all of which were destroyed. Although he stated that this situation could affect Russia's approach to negotiations, he emphasized that relations with the US would not be severed.

In response, Zelenskyy called these statements "another lie." In his opinion, Moscow may be trying to disrupt the progress towards peace between Kyiv and Washington through such claims. Zelenskyy warned that Russia is creating an information base to strike government agencies in Kyiv and called on Trump to respond decisively to Moscow's threats.

On the same day, the President of Ukraine also had a telephone conversation with the Special Representative of the US President, Stephen Whitkoff. This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov. According to him, the parties continue to coordinate further contacts, further steps, and work on documents.

Thus, recent telephone conversations indicate that the geopolitical game around Ukraine has entered an even more complex and acute phase. The path to peace is still unclear, but diplomatic relations have not been interrupted.
