Venezuela opposition leader backs Maduro’s removal from power

Venezuela’s opposition leader, 2025 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina Machado, backed President Nicolás Maduro’s removal from power and announced that a transition period has begun in the country. This was reported by kursiv.uz.reports.
In her published address, Machado said Maduro would face “international justice” for crimes against Venezuelan citizens as well as people in other countries. She noted that after the authorities abandoned a negotiated settlement, the United States kept its promise and acted to “ensure the rule of law.”
The opposition leader also said that president-elect Edmundo González Urrutia must take office immediately. Machado called him the country’s legitimate leader and the commander-in-chief of the national armed forces.
Machado urged her supporters inside Venezuela to maintain organizational order and be ready for further actions. She asked Venezuelans abroad to more actively support the country’s political changes at the international level. Calling the current situation a “decisive” moment for a democratic transition, she expressed confidence in a transfer of power.
