Bob Weir, the 78-year-old American musician and one of the founders of the legendary rock band Grateful Dead, has died. His family members announced his death.
According to relatives, the musician died from complications related to a lung disease. After a long battle with cancer, Bob Weir passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. He was diagnosed in July 2025.
Despite his illness, Weir returned to the stage just a few weeks later. He took part in Dead & Company’s anniversary concerts at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, celebrating 60 years of his music career.
Formed in 1965, Grateful Dead is recognized as one of the most influential acts in the history of American rock music. Their sound blended rock, blues, folk, and country, and their concerts were known for long improvisations.
