Over 5,000 people killed in protests in Iran

According to official reports, at least 5,000 people have died in protests across various regions of Iran since the end of December. Officials blame “terrorists and armed rioters” for the events. Around 500 security personnel are among the dead.
The protests began over economic difficulties and spread over two weeks, including demands against clerical rule. This is the deadliest unrest since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Iranian judicial authorities said some protesters are accused of waging war against religion and the state, and could face the death penalty. U.S. President Donald Trump said he is ready to intervene if executions occur.
Currently, clashes and deaths are reported to be higher in some regions, especially in Kurdish areas. Internet outages and information restrictions make it difficult to obtain accurate details. International organizations are monitoring the situation and paying attention to human rights issues.
