Europe Ready to Take Measures Against U.S. Threats

A number of European Union countries condemned statements by U.S. President Donald Trump about increasing customs tariffs on European countries. European leaders said these threats damage relations between partner countries and are a method of pressure.

The United States said it would introduce new tariffs on Denmark, France, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and Finland, as well as the United Kingdom and Norway, due to the situation related to Greenland. European countries stated that the troops sent to Greenland are aimed only at ensuring security and do not pose a threat to anyone.

An emergency meeting was held in Brussels with the participation of representatives of European Union countries. Some countries are proposing economic measures in response to U.S. pressure. This issue is currently being discussed within Europe.

European leaders said they support resolving the issue through dialogue. At the same time, they stated that if the pressure continues, the European Union is ready to take response measures to protect its interests.
