JCB plans to break another land speed record this August using a new hydrogen-powered vehicle. Introduced 20 years after the Dieselmax project, this machine, named Hydromax, is 32 feet (approximately 9.7 meters) long. This is reported by Autocar.co.uk .

The vehicle was developed in-house and is equipped with a powertrain combining two internal combustion engines. Its total power output is 1579 horsepower. The project is valued at 100 million pounds sterling and was carried out over five years in collaboration with the engineering firm Prodrive.

Hydromax testing begins next month, and it will participate in the traditional Bonneville Speedweek competition held at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah from August 1-7. It was at this same location in 2006 that the Dieselmax set the record for diesel-powered vehicles at 350.092 mph.

According to JCB Chairman Lord Bamford, the main goal is to break the Dieselmax record by demonstrating the environmental friendliness and potential of hydrogen technologies. Legendary pilot Andy Green, who broke the sound barrier on land in 1997, has been invited to drive the vehicle.
