President inspects Samarkand–Urgut railway line
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the construction progress of the new Samarkand–Urgut railway line. The project is planned to be completed and operational by the end of this year, according to the President's press service.

The total length of the new railway line is 55 kilometers and includes two passenger and two freight stations in the Urgut Free Economic Zone, as well as several bridges. The line is also planned to be fully electrified in the future.

Upon completion, the project will enable the operation of two pairs of intercity trains and nine pairs of freight trains on the line. This will create the capacity to transport 359,000 passengers and up to 8.2 million tons of cargo annually.

The railway line aims to provide modern and safe transportation for residents of the districts of Samarkand, Jomboy, Pastdargom, Toyloq, and Urgut. It also seeks to boost domestic tourism and contribute to the growth of the Urgut Free Economic Zone. The President traveled along the new line to Urgut and issued additional directives for further development of the railway infrastructure.

In particular, emphasis was placed on accelerating electrification, enhancing passenger amenities, improving the surrounding areas of the railway, and introducing digital technologies. Additionally, the President underscored the importance of addressing logistical challenges that hinder economic growth.
