From January 1, 2026, in Uzbekistan, the average price of more than 2,600 prescription drugs will be reduced by 40-50%. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed new projects aimed at supporting the pharmaceutical sector and children suffering from rare diseases.
All state procurements will be carried out through the new electronic platform farma.xarid.uz. This system is designed to eliminate low-quality products and cases of corruption.
Only companies with GMP, ISO:13485, and GDP international certificates will be allowed to participate in tenders. Information about state procurements, certified manufacturers, and distributors will be made openly accessible.
The system will automatically ensure that the prices of purchased medicines do not exceed the set reference level. The President was presented with a program of measures for 2026-2030, aimed at providing medical and social assistance to children with rare and other hereditary-genetic diseases.
According to this program, the number of diseases with state-funded treatment will be increased from five to ten, and the age limit for free treatment will be extended from 18 to 21 years. 961 billion soums are planned to be allocated for the implementation of the program during 2026-2030.
The President signed the relevant decision and approved the draft program. In addition, by January 1, 2026, a separate platform will be created to account for the needs of state medical institutions in medicines and equipment, and to manage their inventories.
The President was also presented with a new procedure for the registration of medicines and medical products. This procedure provides for the quick registration of drugs produced on the basis of technology transfer, meaning that foreign companies' products will be manufactured at local enterprises.
In addition, conditions are being created for the introduction of biotechnological cell preparations that help restore damaged tissues and organs into medical practice. Approving the proposed measures, Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave instructions to ensure that by the end of 2025, all 32 projects with a total investment of $166 million are fully implemented, 1,500 new jobs are created, and medicine prices are reduced.
From 2026, medicine prices will be reduced by up to 50%
