On December 26, 2025, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced during his address to the Oliy Majlis (Supreme Assembly) and the people of Uzbekistan that preparations have begun for the launch of Uzbekistan’s first astronaut and an artificial satellite into space. According to the head of state, these events will serve as a new impetus for the development of science.
In 2028, an International Astronomical Congress is planned to be held in Samarkand. It should be noted that in 2023, Uzspace (Uzbekkosmos) and the Agency for Innovative Development reached an agreement on launching a small artificial satellite.
The project aims to involve young Uzbek specialists. Earlier this year, it was revealed that Tashkent expressed interest in launching an artificial satellite with the help of SpaceX, and the company announced its readiness to assist Uzbekistan in developing a space exploration strategy.
