Greenhouses in Tashkent and Tashkent region that use coal for heating but operate without filtration systems will be shut down and relocated from the vicinity of the capital. This announcement was made by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during his annual address to the Oliy Majlis and the people of Uzbekistan.
The head of state presented this decision as part of systematic measures aimed at improving the environmental situation. In his speech, the president emphasized ensuring ecological balance, promoting green energy, and efficiently utilizing water resources as key priorities.
According to official data, approximately 2,000 greenhouses are currently operating in Tashkent and the Tashkent region, utilizing coal and gas for heating. Most of them function with coal-fired boilers that lack filtration systems, negatively impacting air quality, especially during the autumn and winter seasons.
As a result, the use of boilers without filters will be completely discontinued. Such greenhouses will be relocated outside the capital area, and their heating will be organized through centralized boiler systems.
Over 200 hectares of land will be designated to create agro-clusters for relocating greenhouse facilities. Greenhouses willing to join these clusters will receive dedicated subsidies.
In addition, a $100 million credit line will be opened for large enterprises. These funds will be directed toward the installation of filters, purification systems, and monitoring stations for harmful emissions.
It is worth noting that inspections previously revealed that 10 greenhouses in the Tashkent district were polluting the air with coal smoke. As a result, these facilities were immediately shut down, and strict measures were implemented.
