Shavkat Mirziyoyev announces 'emergency measures' against corruption
President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, has announced a transition to an "emergency state" mode in the fight against corruption.

The head of state pledged to tighten strict control over the use of budget funds and to abolish immunity for officials. According to him, a new position of deputy responsible for compliance and internal anti-corruption oversight will be introduced in all government agencies.

These officials, as well as representatives of the Accounts Chamber, will report directly to the President. The new mechanism aims to swiftly detect theft, abuse of power, and unethical employees.

The President emphasized that personal responsibility will now apply to every penny of public funds. "Anyone who thinks their position or title guarantees immunity is gravely mistaken.

No institution will remain outside of scrutiny. Any obstacles to the work of compliance services will be regarded as participation in corruption," Mirziyoyev stated.

The implementation of these measures will be overseen by the compliance service under the Presidential Administration. It will immediately inform the head of state about corruption cases, irrespective of the participants’ status or previous services.
