President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced this during his address to the Oliy Majlis. Main trunk canals with a total length of 1,300 km will be lined with concrete, enabling an additional annual saving of 500 million cubic meters of water. Work will also begin to convert open drains and collectors into a closed system, build new canals, and repair existing ones. In Tashkent, under a $160 million program, 150 km of a closed drainage system will be built, 197 km of canals and collectors will be repaired, and 63 km of new canals will be constructed. This will help create a cooler microclimate in the capital and expand green areas.
