Mexico is growing, and Trump's plan B is not a tariff
Mexico will take similar and other measures in response to the imposition of a 25 percent tariff on its goods by US President Donald Trump. This was announced by the country's President Claudia Sheinbaum.

"I instruct the Minister of Economy to implement Plan B, which includes tariff and non-tariff measures to protect Mexican interests. Do nothing by force, do everything with reason. We categorically reject any encroachments on our territory by the White House and slander against the Mexican government, which is accused of links to criminal organizations," Sheinbaum said.

The Mexican president called on the United States to cooperate in the fight against fentanyl and stressed that Mexico does not want confrontation with neighboring countries. According to Sheinbaum, Mexico is taking measures to combat drug trafficking: in four months, the government has seized more than 40 tons of drugs, including 20 million doses of fentanyl.

He advised the United States to combat the problem domestically: it is necessary to take measures to prevent drug trafficking in American cities and punish those who legalize the proceeds of such operations.

“Problems are not solved by imposing tariffs, but by negotiating and communicating. Just like we have done with your State Department in recent weeks to solve the migration problem; in our case, with respect for human rights,” he concluded.

Trump imposes tariffs on 3 countries

The United States will impose tariffs on goods imported from Canada, China and Mexico. President Donald Trump signed the order on February 1. He explained his decision by the threat of illegal immigrants and drug smuggling.

In response, China warned the United States of the beginning of a trade war. After the United States once again increased tariffs on imports from China, Beijing warned Washington of the risk of a trade war. The Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement that there would be no winners in a “trade or tariff war.”

“The additional 10 percent tariff will inevitably affect and harm bilateral cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking between the countries,” the ministry said in a statement.

China stressed that it “resolutely rejects the new tariffs” and “will take appropriate countermeasures to firmly protect its rights and interests.” China now intends to file a complaint against the United States at the World Trade Organization (WTO).

What did Canada do?

Canada will retaliate against Trump's 25 percent tariffs on its goods, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said.

A 25 percent tariff will be imposed on 155 billion Canadian dollars ($106.5 billion) worth of U.S. imports. The measures will take effect on 30 billion Canadian dollars on February 4, and on the remaining amount three weeks later. The U.S. tariffs will also take effect on February 4.

The U.S. has imposed a 25 percent tariff on all Canadian goods except energy resources - the tariff on them is 10 percent. Trudeau urged Canadians to buy domestic products and relax in their own country, not in the United States.
