According to CBS News, 31-year-old Kouel Allen admitted during the investigation that he had planned an attack against members of the White House administration.
However, no clear information was provided on whether he intended to fire directly at the president.
It was reported that he entered as an attendee at an event held at the Washington Hilton hotel in Washington.
According to law enforcement agencies, the suspect had a pistol and several knives in his possession.
He acted alone and is reported to have fired several shots at the entrance to the hall where the event was taking place.
