US President Donald Trump, speaking at the UN General Assembly in New York on September 23, stated that he recognizes China and India as the main "sponsors" of the war in Ukraine. According to Trump, the two countries are engaged in economic cooperation with Russia and continue to purchase Russian oil.
"China and India are the main sponsors of this war and continue to buy Russian oil," Trump said.
The US President also criticized European countries. He called it "disgraceful" for European countries to buy Russian energy carriers. "Europeans need to become more active. They cannot act as they do now. While they are at war with Russia, they are buying oil and gas from Russia. This is a disgrace," Trump said.
In addition, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Go Jiacun, said that China has consistently taken a fair and impartial position on the Ukrainian crisis and is neither an initiator nor a participant in this crisis.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his firm and consistent position on the peaceful settlement of the conflict between the countries and support for efforts aimed at restoring peace.
The US Treasury Department has already called on EU countries and G7 members to impose serious tariffs against China and India to force them to stop purchasing Russian oil until the war in Ukraine ends. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs called this call "terrorism and economic coercion."
