US President Donald Trump said that if Iran’s government escalates violence against protest participants and allows them to be brutally killed, Washington is ready to provide assistance to those demonstrating.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stressed that the United States is “ready to act.” His statement came amid reports of casualties among protesters and law enforcement officers in Iran.
Protests in the country have continued since late December last year. They are said to have been triggered by a sharp depreciation of the national currency and rising inflation. Later, spontaneous rallies were also observed in various parts of Iran.
The fiercest clashes were reportedly recorded in the city of Azna. Although Iranian officials said they were ready for dialogue with protesters, law enforcement agencies described the events as the result of a plot by external forces.
