
French club Metz defender Tairis Dos Santos suffered serious burn injuries as a result of a fire that broke out at the Crans-Montana ski resort in Switzerland. According to the club’s press service, the 19-year-old footballer is currently receiving treatment in Germany.
The incident occurred on New Year’s Eve at a bar at the Swiss resort and caused major casualties. About 40 people were killed and more than 110 were injured.
“Our academy graduate Tairis Dos Santos was affected by the fire in Crans-Montana. The player was airlifted by helicopter to Germany with severe burns and is currently being treated there. The club’s management, players and all staff are deeply shaken by this tragedy. We express our full support to his family. Further information will be provided if there are any significant changes in his condition,” Metz said in an official statement.
Dos Santos has not yet made his debut for Metz’s first team; he mainly played for the youth side and drew attention there.
