In Kiribati, New Year’s Eve is usually celebrated along the ocean coast. Local residents gather on beaches, welcoming the New Year with fireworks and festive events. Tourists also travel here специально to witness “the very first New Year of the year.”
After Kiribati, the New Year begins in Samoa and Tonga. These countries are located in the UTC+13 time zone, where the holiday is marked with traditional songs, dances, and public celebrations. Samoa joined the first New Year celebrators after changing its time zone in 2011.
