Entrance to the Trevi Fountain in Rome will now be paid

According to media reports, a special fee has now been introduced for tossing coins near the famous Trevi Fountain in Rome, the capital of Italy.

It is reported that tourists will have to pay two euros to enter the fountain area daily from 09:00 to 22:00. Children under five years of age, persons with disabilities, and citizens living in Rome are exempt from this payment. Free access to the fountain in the evening and early morning hours will also be maintained.

According to the city administration's calculations, ticket sales could generate between €6.5 million and €20 million in revenue throughout the year. These funds are planned to be directed to the maintenance of the fountain, maintenance, and reimbursement of employees' salaries.

It is noted that the coins thrown by tourists into the fountain will still be transferred to the charitable organization Caritas di Roma, which provides assistance to low-income people. The Trevy Fountain collects an average of €1.5 million in coins annually.
