Man Who Considered Himself a Vampire Arrested in Britain

In the United Kingdom an unusual incident caused widespread public discussion. Forty-eight-year-old Benjamin Lewis, who left sheep and deer carcasses outside churches in Hampshire, causing fear and concern among local residents, was forcibly placed in a psychiatric hospital by court order. This was reported by The Guardian publication.

According to the investigation, Benjamin Lewis stole lambs from farmers, slaughtered them, and then left their carcasses at the entrances of churches located in the New Forest area. In some cases, he also left inverted cross symbols and tarot cards at the sites. These actions caused serious concern and fear among local residents, church staff, and worshippers.

Law enforcement officers conducted special surveillance operations for several months to identify the suspect. Police even increased patrols around churches on dates considered significant in the Satanist calendar, attempting to prevent possible crimes. After a lengthy investigation, Benjamin Lewis was identified through DNA obtained from a lamb carcass and was arrested.

During the investigation, a search of the suspect's home uncovered images depicting vampires, notes about various rituals, and records related to drinking blood. According to police, Lewis firmly believed that drinking blood could grant a person eternal life and turn them into a vampire.

At the end of the trial, Benjamin Lewis was found guilty of deliberately causing fear and threats on religious grounds, as well as stealing lambs belonging to farmers. Judge William Mausley ordered that he remain in a psychiatric hospital until it was medically confirmed that he was safe for society.

According to psychiatric specialists, Lewis suffers from complex mental health problems. It also emerged that this was not the first incident involving such behavior. In 2003, he also called himself a vampire and was prosecuted and imprisoned for frightening a priest and his family members.

Experts emphasize that the incident once again demonstrates how important it is to address mental health problems in society in a timely manner.
