In June 2025, Air India flight 171 took off from Ahmedabad, India, but crashed shortly after, killing 260 people. Following this devastating disaster, the families of four passengers filed a lawsuit in the US against Boeing and Honeywell.
The lawsuit claims that faulty fuel switches caused the engines to lose fuel supply. The families accuse the manufacturers of knowing about the risk in advance but failing to take action.
India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau also confirmed this issue in its preliminary report. Just seconds after takeoff, the fuel switch was moved to the “cut-off” position, which caused the plane to lose power and control. This is regarded as a design defect.
Boeing declined to comment, and Honeywell also gave no official response. Experts expect the final crash report to be published in 2026. The families demand justice and accountability for those responsible for the tragedy.
