In Tashkent, over the next 5 years, more than 670,000 consumers will receive modern smart water meters free of charge, funded by the State Enterprise "Tashkent City Water Supply." These works are part of an international project being carried out in cooperation with the French company "Suez," reports the "Tashkent City Water Supply" enterprise.
Initially, smart meters were installed in the Shaykhontohur district as a pilot project. Now, gradually, modern meters will be installed in homes across all districts. The installation of the meters will be free for the residents.
"As part of the project, it is planned to install smart meters in the homes of individuals, i.e., in residential buildings. The main goal is to improve the control of drinking water consumption and develop the monitoring system based on digital technologies," says the official statement.
Previously used old models of meters caused inconvenience both for the supplier and consumers. In particular, the failure to enter meter readings into the system on time led to misunderstandings in payments. Additionally, consumers did not have detailed information about their water consumption, the press service clarified.
The new meters will be convenient for both sides—consumers and the supplier. They transmit data remotely via a radio module, providing indicators such as water consumption, pressure in the pipes, and the condition of equipment with high accuracy and without external interference.
Consumers with smart meters will no longer be required to submit readings to the billing system. Moreover, they will be able to track their water consumption through an online personal account and make payments through mobile applications.
The supplier will have the ability to collect data remotely. This will help prevent unaccounted water losses. These capabilities will be crucial for effective water distribution management.
The new meters come with a 5-year manufacturer’s warranty. During this period, any faults will be addressed in accordance with technical service and repair terms.
The mass installation of smart meters, which were tested in the Shaykhontohur district, will begin in the third quarter of this year, starting with the Yangihayot district. Work in other districts will be carried out step by step according to the scheduled plan.
The Tashkent City Water Supply enterprise clarified that no pipe connection or plumbing work will be done during the installation of the new meters, only replacing old meters with new smart meters. The official authorities are asking consumers to allow staff to enter their homes for installation.
For questions related to the process, residents can contact the temporary headquarters that will be set up in each district.
