Arsenal should sign Bruno Guimarães — Mikael Silvestre

Arsenal are stepping up efforts to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season and are looking for a new midfielder. Head coach Mikel Arteta is active in the transfer market to keep the team competitive and defend their Premier League title. The London club reportedly submitted an official offer for Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimarães, but the bid was rejected. This was reported by Goal.com reports .

In an interview with Grosvenor Sport, former Arsenal and Manchester United defender Mikael Silvestre shared his thoughts on the potential transfer. He said that moving to the London club would be the best decision for the Brazilian midfielder and all parties involved. Silvestre noted that negotiations between the clubs would continue despite Newcastle rejecting the initial offer, and that the transfer had a strong chance of being completed.

Importance of dynamism and competition

The former footballer spoke highly of Bruno Guimarães’ abilities, saying he could offer more dynamism than the options currently available in the squad. In particular, he compared the playing styles of Martin Zubimendi and the Brazilian. According to Silvestre, unlike Zubimendi, who was left on the bench in some matches last season, Guimarães is much more active on the pitch.

"It was a strange feeling to see Martin Zubimendi on the bench last season. He had some good games, but there were also setbacks. Myles Lewis-Skelly showed that he could add another layer to his game and break through the lines with his runs. Zubimendi cannot do that; he is a different type of player," Silvestre said.

Importance in the title race

Silvestre believes Bruno Guimarães can be more aggressive on the pitch, and that this quality is vital for Mikel Arteta’s team to succeed in competitions. A deep and high-quality squad is required to retain the Premier League title and compete successfully in the Champions League.

"Bruno Guimarães can handle both tasks. He is slightly more aggressive than Zubimendi, and players with that character will be needed to defend the title. If you want to reach another Champions League final and defend the trophy, you need enough strength in depth," the former defender added.

Mikael Silvestre also dismissed suggestions that Manchester United could enter the race for the transfer. According to him, the Red Devils have already strengthened their midfield sufficiently in recent transfer windows and do not need more players in that position.
