Uzbekistan and Jordan have reached a number of new agreements on further expanding cooperation in the field of agriculture. Within the framework of the visit, a meeting was held with the Minister of Agriculture of Jordan, Abdulhalim Saeb, during which promising directions in the agricultural sector of the two countries were discussed.
During the negotiations, the main attention was paid to crops resistant to water shortages and soil salinity. In particular, an agreement was reached on the introduction of salt-tolerant varieties of tomatoes, wheat, and barley for localization in Uzbekistan. For this purpose, various experiments are being conducted in test fields, and based on the results obtained, it is planned to introduce new agricultural technologies into practice.
At the same time, great attention was paid to the livestock sector. The Jordanian side supported the initiative to localize the Avasi sheep breed in Uzbekistan. Initially, it was announced that four sheep would be presented as a gift and frozen semen materials would be sent additionally. This initiative is expected to open up new genetic possibilities in local livestock farming.
During the negotiations, the issue of mutual exchange of genetic resources of agricultural crops and the establishment of cooperation between genetic banks was also considered. In this regard, negotiations were held on Uzbekistan's accession to the international agreement on plant genetic resources.
The parties emphasized the need to expand trade and economic cooperation and agreed to organize a fair of agricultural and food products under the brand "Made in Uzbekistan." This event will attract major Jordanian importers, entrepreneurs, and investors, significantly increasing the volume of trade between the two countries.
Mutual agreements are expected not only to strengthen cooperation in the agricultural sector, but also to give new impetus to cooperation in economic and scientific fields.
