Iran, China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and Turkey have signed an agreement in Istanbul to expand railway freight transportation along the southern route of the Eurasian transit corridor. This was reported by Mehr News Agency.
The countries agreed to introduce unified tariffs for container trains, reduce transit times, and lower customs costs. The document also envisions modernizing infrastructure to enhance the corridor's capacity and increase the southern route's share in trade between China and Europe.
According to Mehr, Iran remains a key transit hub. The majority of the updated route will pass through this country.
In 2024, the volume of cargo transported through Iran via this route is expected to reach approximately 60 million tons.
