Fergana customs post chief arrested with a $5,000 bribe

In Fergana, the head of a customs post was detained for taking a bribe. According to a video aired on local TV channels, the incident was uncovered as he was receiving $5,000 in exchange for illegally letting 80 mobile phones through.

The goods were being brought in from Kyrgyzstan, and the illegal scheme itself posed serious risks. By court ruling, the individual was sentenced to 4 years in prison and banned from working in the customs system for 3 years.

This case further underscores the importance of combating corruption in the country’s customs and border services and shows the effectiveness of measures aimed at making the system more transparent and fair.
