Akmal Shukurov, who was found guilty in the brawl near The Tower Hotel in March, has been sent back to prison, according to the Supreme Court. Earlier this fall, Shukurov had been sentenced to 8 years and 1 month in prison.
However, in early December, a capital city court accepted an appeal, reducing his sentence to 4 years of restricted liberty, reports Gazeta.uz. The Tashkent city court panel accepted the objection raised by the city prosecutor's office against this decision.
Shukurov’s prison term was reduced from 8 years to 6 years, with an additional 3 years of correctional labor imposed. "The time already spent in detention has been accounted for in his sentence, leaving him with 5 years, 3 months, and 12 days of imprisonment remaining," stated the Supreme Court.
It should be recalled that, on March 16, Shukurov got into an altercation near The Tower Hotel with Boris Avakyan, causing severe head injuries to the latter. The victim was immediately hospitalized, underwent brain surgery, and was placed in an artificial coma.
Following the incident, Shukurov fled to Kazakhstan but was soon detained by Kazakh law enforcement agencies and extradited to Uzbekistan.
