"The Secret Santa" began to be used as a new fraudulent scheme. This was reported by TASS, citing Moshelovka platform curator Alla Khrapunova.
Scammers are offering social media users to play "secret Santa." "The criminals send offers like 'let's make the children happy: you'll buy my child, and I'll buy yours' or post such offers in their social media statuses," says Khrapunova. As a result, the scammer receives a gift and doesn't send anything in return.
According to the publication, there is another variant of fraud, in which criminals organize entire fake communities. "The fraudulent organizer imitates the "secret Santa" rules, but gives everyone one delivery address - his own. Or they convince you to invest in the 'general insurance fund' <...>, after which the chat disappears," explains Khrapunova.
Meanwhile, a Kostroma resident transferred 245 thousand rubles to scammers who pretended to be Jennifer Aniston.
