A new step can be taken in the migration processes between Uzbekistan and Russia. According to the press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahror Burkhanov, in the near future, citizens of both countries will be able to enter each other's territory only using a domestic passport.
According to him, negotiations on this issue are currently ongoing. At the same time, it was noted that the necessary internal state procedures are being carried out. "The parties are working on agreements on certain aspects. Therefore, it is too early to say the exact dates," a representative of the ministry told Izvestiya.
Recall that in May 2025, the government of Uzbekistan considered the possibility of making a decision on the entry of citizens of Russia, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan into the country for a period of up to 30 days on the basis of an internal passport or ID-card, and children - with a special "Kinder passport." This initiative was outlined in a decree signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on May 15, which envisages a sharp increase in the flow of tourists to the country.
Currently, a visa-free regime is in effect between Uzbekistan and Russia. However, a foreign passport is currently required for Russian citizens to visit Uzbekistan. At the same time, upon arrival in the country for a period of more than 15 days, they are obliged to undergo temporary registration no later than 15 days.
In turn, citizens of Uzbekistan are also using a "red" (foreign) passport to enter Russia. It is stipulated that every citizen arriving in Russia must register with the regional migration departments of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs within 7 working days from the date of crossing the state border.
Also, from June 30, 2025, all foreign citizens arriving in Russia without a visa will be required to pre-register and obtain a QR code through the "Gosuslugi RuID" mobile application.
