It became known that individuals who introduced themselves as employees of the State Security Service, Internal Affairs, and the Central Bank deceived a citizen for $170,000. As a result of this fraud, the victim sold his car and house, got into debt, and lost his savings.
According to the information, citizen M.P., who appealed to the Authorized Person of the Oliy Majlis for Human Rights, stated that he lost a large amount of money due to his naivety and carelessness. In the appeal, he stated that in December 2024, individuals, identifying themselves as employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Security Service, and the Central Bank, forced him to transfer $170,000 via cryptocurrency.
For this purpose, citizen M.P. was forced to sell his personal property - his car and house, as well as lost his savings and entered into debt. In connection with the incident, he officially contacted the Cyber Security Center in December 2024, a criminal case was initiated, and he was officially recognized as a victim.
The Ombudsman appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs to clarify the circumstances indicated in the complaint. As a result of a joint investigation, the Cybersecurity Department recovered 115 thousand US dollars (1 billion 434 million 625 thousand soums) in favor of citizen M.P. through the "Crypto Store."
"The Ombudsman receives many appeals related to fraud, but in most of them, it is not possible to return the funds. This requires not to be deceived by such situations and to be aware in advance," the report says.
