Has the word "o‘ron" started to be used instead of "password"?

The Terminology Commission under the Cabinet of Ministers adopted another decision in July 2025 to replace foreign terms with their Uzbek equivalents. In this regard, Uzbek equivalents were found for a total of 40 foreign words.

Among these changes, the most notable were words related to technology and electronic documentation. In particular, it was announced that the word "password" will be translated into Uzbek as "o‘ron".

In electronic digital signatures and digital services, the phrase "password change" began to appear in the Uzbek language in the form of "o‘ron change." This leads to misunderstandings and misinterpretations for many users.

According to analysts, it is very important to translate these terms correctly and accurately, as incorrect words can cause confusion and misunderstanding among some users. Also, the use of the word "o‘ron" in digital services and electronic signature systems should be understandable to the user from a practical point of view.

The Terminology Commission aims to enrich the Uzbek language with modern technological words and prevent its deprivation of international vocabulary through such changes.
